Some of the people at the Waterhackathon last weekend (a joint Citizen Sensor, Ushahidi and Pachube project at Parsons) were using my book Environmental Monitoring with Arduino as a textbook to build their water monitoring gadgets!  I was thrilled and honored. My water gadget design was deliberately simple, so it was exciting to see how the other groups expanded theirs: they adapted the water sensor to work in brackish water, they added a GSM modem to transmit the data over the cellular network, a rechargeable LiPO battery, voltage regulators, and a solar panel to power the whole thing!

Then they got in canoes and went out onto the Gowanus Canal to install their gadgets…
